Failure

I know I never post to my blog, but tonight I feel betrayed and also like a bit of a failure. Therefore, I must get this out so that I can sleep.

You see, I've been the President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for one full term, and tonight we had our meeting to nominate and vote on officers...

A bit of back-story: when I first became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, I was inducted on election night, which meant that I got to vote. Well, the lady who was really nice to me that first night asked me to vote for her for President and I did. Now that I think back, it seems like the same thing that happened to the sitting President that night just happened to me.

We received two petitions for membership tonight and one of the new members just happened to be there at the meeting (which rarely happens, most people join and never attend a single meeting). So she was able to come in and vote. Well, we get to nominations for President and a member nominates my opponent, then a member nominates me. Since the myself, the secretary and the treasurer were not expecting there to be any opposition, no one was prepared with slips of paper for a secret vote, except for my opponents mother, who happens to be that "nice" lady from when I was first inducted.

Please keep in mind that the only complaints I've had during office have been about a sign I repainted that was taken down at the Commander's request, and the fact that I am in the mens' office too much (I am the person the men selected to be Bingo manager and I also use the computer in the office for Auxiliary business, designing and printing flyers, etc.) Not one person has come to me with any complaints besides those two things, which I thought were taken care of.

I have worked very hard over the past year as Auxiliary President, making sure to fill out and send in our reports to State so that we get credit for all that we do, attending district and state meetings, learning all that I can in order to do justice to the job of President. I've also had some good fund raising ideas, patriotic ideas and youth activities ideas I brought to the meeting room and which were turned into reality.

I lost the election for President this year, but I feel like I was betrayed, stabbed in the back, talked about but not talked to. For these reasons - not because I lost the election - I cried tonight in the meeting and when it was over. I do not understand the need for someone to be so sneaky. Had either my opponent or her mother come to me and told me that she wanted the office, I would have been happy, even relieved. But to lose it the way I did...the way it happened...was just shady.

I may confront them about the way the elections were handled tomorrow night, I may not. I think it would make me feel better to point out the fact that I know. Shady shady people, and now one of them is in office.

Ranting about my store

First of all, I understand that my store is not organized right now, so complain all you want about that. But when I hear someone complain about a price, it makes me so upset. $19.99 for a pair of fuzzy Wanted boots that are still on the market and have probably only been worn 3-5 times is not outrageous. I wish that people would understand that I not only look at the quality of the item, but the brand name and how much it originally sold for when I price things.

Also, if people would check my sign (which yes, I've yet to change this month but it doesn't matter because nobody ever looks at it anyway) for the sales, they would know that each month, a certain color tag goes on sale for 20% off and then in another month, that color tag is 40% off. So even if a customer thinks that a price is high, the item they are complaining about is probably actually on sale!

Amazing

Today the hubs asked me if I would like for him to go to the store and me to stay at home. Well, yeah! So I called Heather and asked if I had any appointments on my book for this afternoon and I didn't. HOORAY! I am now doing the Fly Lady thing and trying to get my house a little bit cleaner. You see, I am not a BO (Born Organized) person, and Michael and I have severe CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome). If you are like me, check out the Fly Lady website. She offers tons of free help and guidance.

Now, I must get away from this computer and FLY!

Dream Journal

Okay, so Doni sent Jesi on a scavenger hunt in Wal-Mart, with me and Michael as her helpers. The clues were all in places that could have been messed up had anyone looked at or bought that particular item. Also, we had the piece of paper folded in half, and when she was done with half of the clues, Jesi thought she was done with the whole thing. So then it was getting late and I realized she was only done with half of the scavenger hunt and got upset. But then Kris Allen was working as a stocker at Wal-Mart and he had been instructed to give us all the extra items in case we ran late, so he did.

Switch to some strange pageant, back stage. Brittany Lyons is in it, Jesi is in it, and Ashley Walthall is in it. I am rooting for all three of them to win titles, and they all do.

Then Ashley's mom is looking at an RV in order to drive around the country doing pageants. They buy it, of course.

I suck

Well, my 4 month pledge came and went and I only got two or three things done. I don't think I will sign up again for a while. I have asked the hubs for a Threadbanger Janome sewing machine for Christmas. If I get it, I will definitely start sewing more, if for no other reason but guilt.

Anyway, just thought I would update since I have this posted as my website on several different places. Which reminds me, I really need to work on my site.

The vest and what's to come

Now, the vest I posted about earlier. It's supposed to have buttons but I decided on hook-and-eye, though I did add a few fabric covered buttons for decoration. I just don't think I'm ready to tackle button holes! It's still not completely done-I will add more closures down the front-but I'm wearing it today so I thought I'd take pictures finally.
As I said in my earlier post, all the fabric is vintage from my Mamaw. The black is a double knit and the black and white is just a broadcloth/cotton print. I think it turned out great for my second-ever lined project! It is a little small but I like a fitted vest!

Next up are a few items for my DD, I've got some cute dress patterns and ideas. I think maybe a shirt dress from a tutorial I saw on threadbanger a while back. I should also finish the pillow case dress/tunic top for her to wear since the season is coming for that. Oh and I've seen lots of people post bag crafts, and I'm planning on making some shopping bags so I'll post that too, eventually.

So behind!

Well I was supposed to post this ages ago, so what better time than the present? Here's a picture of me at my brother's wedding in the finished shrug. I've almost finished the vest, I'll probably actually wear it tomorrow, so I'll be sure to get someone to take a picture!

Three generations: me, my grandmother and my momma.
